I feel that I should share my experience here and as I got a lot of comments & insights from bloggers last time.
I started studying CAT in 2009. I took 1 year to finish it. I shall list out the lecturers I was under.
Comments made based on my personal judgement. Not to rely on my comments, u must do research more.
T1- Mr Poon
he was ok. but certain topics didn't make clear. anyway it's an easy paper to score.
T2- Jessy Chong
she was ok. this was the 1st paper i did costing, and she didn't give an overall introduction to some chapters, i was quite lost at that time.
T3- Pung Siau Wei
Amazing! I always looking forward to her class.
T4- Dr Tee
He made things clear, always drew mind map and gave an overall introduction. but he always talked out of topic stuff in the class.
T5- Chang Shew Leng
I remember she did a lot of questions with us in the class. I copied a lot of answers in the class. It's good for me coz my english is weak, I can't construct a proper sentence, copying did make me learn.
T6- Dr Tee
same as T4.
T7- Daniel Lee (half sem)/ Alvin Tan (half sem)
I don't remember much. I skipped a lot of classes.
T9- Andrew Kok
What a humorous lecturer! He covered the whole syllabus.
T10- Pung Siau Wei
same as T3.
So, after finishing CAT, I got exemptions for F1, F2 and F3 (ACCA).
F4- Ms Sanjeetha
lively teaching. once enter her class, u couldn't stop laughing. I had a hard time laughing non-stop.
F5- Dr Tee
he just nagged even more, added more than 10 extra classes.
F6- Andrew Kok
more serious style than T9, will push u more to study.
F7- Joe Fang
special method to approach conso acc. no double entries at all.
F8- Sheila John (full sem)/ Marcus Ong (half sem)
Sheila is good. ya, she did gave me a bulky notes. but I am those type of students who scare missing out important areas. so i prefer bulky notes, u have 5 months to study, 450 pages of notes are nothing. don't worry, she will summarize important areas in the revision notes.
Marcus, erm. u must study more technical knowledge on ur own. he will do a lot of tutorial Qs in the class. he types the answers using Apple laptop, then u will be sitting there copying like hell.
F9- Andrew Pang
I really like his accent, funny pronunciation. under him, u will have no problem on calculation, he teaches calculations thoroughly. the past year questions he taught, the tutorial questions he gave, are 2/3 times harder than exam sometimes. i mean sometimes, if u are unlucky, ur exam questions may be that hard too. LOL
P1- Sheila John
Why did I choose her instead of choosing Dr. Parmindar? because i was attracted that the way she approaches exam questions, how we should not leave out any requirements of the questions. her methods made me so calm during the exam, i even used her method in my other papers.
P2- Joe Fang
I just follow back the lecturer of my F7. now i have some experience to share, really must have a good basic of IAS, study hard for IAS! conso part is fun to play with, lol.
P3- Parmindar Singh
This lecturer, fun and patient. he delivers the knowledge to students in many ways, a lot of real life examples. he'll give homework to let students try on, my advice is, must try to complete the homework. i regretted i did not do my homework all the while, so during exam, i really had difficulties of releasing output from my brain.
Very lucky today coz I got Kaplan revision kit to have a look.
So when I looked into each question, I found that, no, the questions aren’t that hard, as I have the wrongconception that questions provided by Kaplan Publisher are much harder than BPP publisher’s questions.
So conclusions I can make are:
1 Font size chosen by Kaplan is bigger, easier to see (designed to be used by lecturers? XD)
2 Answers provided by Kaplan (objective questions)are very in detailed, not only provided explanation to the right answer, but explained why other answers are not correct also. Very impressed and satisfied with the answers provided (I think it is suitable for those who are not familiar with the questions or even the syllabus, those who has already practised a lot, will not find this helpful)
While the BPP exam kit is vice versa.
So, I went Mc Orange today. It’s a college. The purpose I went there was to buy BPP exam kits. Thanks to my college’s friend’s friend (grammatical error? XD) coz he gave instructions to my friend how should we go there. I thought this college was very far from Masjid Jamek LRT station. Surprisingly, we could get there by only 5 minutes. Once we got there, my first impression being inside was, wow, why are there so many counters? Similar to bank la, 1 2 3 4 counters. Then my friend and I were lost in the centre of the office, which counter should we ask? If we go to bank, we take turn by taking a number right? But here, no such thing leh. Luckily my friend was brave enough to ask 1 of the counters, then ok, everything got settled within 10 minutes. Some books are not available, so we paid first and they helped us to order those books. There was a part which was very funny(?) we asked the counter, whether we can take the book a little bit late, then the counter woman answered: Once the books are ready, we will call you then you can come to take.
Then my friend looked at me, this time I asked again: could we take the books after the books are ready, I mean then we will take it when we are free.
She answered the same as previous: errr. Don’t worry, we will call you to get your books.
Orz…..we were communicating in Mandarin, how come there was a misunderstanding? Or should I change my question significantly, “Could I take this next month/ next year/next century?” then of course she will give me the right answer la XD
After that, we went mamak stall. Chat a lot while eating, then took LRT and went home.
